Absent Voices is an artist-led project celebrating the legacy of the Greenock Sugar Sheds, vast Category A listed hulking relics of the sugar trade, a dark and sweet slice of Scots history. Absent Voices commissioned six films from Filmpoem, a project by artist Alastair Cook dedicated to the filming of words; a philanthropic and collaborative venture committed to attracting audiences to new writing.
The Filmpoem/ Absent Voices collection premiered at the Scottish Poetry Library to a sold-out crowd on the 6th December 2012, with readings and live music; it received a wonderful review in the Scottish Review of Books. The collection was screened at Newcastle's Lit and Phil in January and then at The Body Electric in Colorado in May of this year. These six films are available free-to-view below; contact me.
